A Wedding at Skylands Manor

Andrea & Frank’s wedding (#576) Andrea & Frank’s wedding was one of our most anticipated weddings of the year for a number of reasons. For one thing, we knew how much passion this couple felt for one another and the way those feelings would allow us to create incredible photos. We also knew how much they had gone through leading up to this date. So the level of excitement and anticipation for their wedding was simply through the roof! Andrea could hardly contain herself as she entered the large wooden doors of Skyland’s Manor, greeting us with warm hugs on this cold December day. After dressing in her amazing gown (along with a sassy matching jacket, hand-made by a seamstress from Italy) and a fun bridal portrait session with Andrea, we caught up with Frank, who looked like the proudest man on the planet as he waited for his bride. The audience — and Frank — was full of tears of joy as she walked down the aisle of the cozy chapel.

Our most enjoyable time was the private time with Andrea & Frank for photography. We had a chance to walk outside and enjoy some of the grounds around the castle. And later towards the end of the evening, they spent a pocket of time with us exploring the romantically mysterious hallways for some stunning portraits. They were incredible models, and we could have spent all evening with them if they had wanted.

Andrea & Frank, thanks SO MUCH for entrusting us with such a valuable privilege. We knew your wedding day would be a stunner. And we very much appreciate the delicious meal that was provided. Linda and Laurel, and the entire staff of Skylands Manor were so helpful and on the ball. Your families were a joy to be around. 🙂

We hope all of you enjoy these previews. It’s just a taste of what is to come while we prepare the rest of the online gallery. It will be available soon in the “Client Proofs” area of our main website. And please post a note here and say hello by clicking on the “Comments” link below.

Andrea & Frank’s wedding (#264)

  • Ulysses - We’ve done shots similar to this on the staircase before, but it was by using sunlight from the setting sun weakly filtering in through the windows. Still, this one was technically more challenging because of the positioning of the light and the rather late hour (it’s already dark by 5PM here in NY, and this shoot was a couple hours beyond that). I couldn’t have been happier when Andrea actually requested this shot of the Skylands Manor stairway, as it’s one we love so much, too. So moody and textured. 🙂

    Thanks, Jess!December 26, 2007 – 9:55 PM

  • Jenni - Thanks, Jess! The lighting for this photo was from a hanging light above them. We positioned them to take advantage of it. Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂December 26, 2007 – 9:40 PM

  • Jessica - lovely stair shot. Did you use a high powered Vid light? Or was the light coming from the hanging light fixture above them?December 25, 2007 – 10:37 PM

  • Ulysses - Hi there, Laetitia! It’s so good to hear from you again. We think about you and Berti often. 🙂

Thanks for the kind words about the photos. We didn’t have a lot of time, as we needed to get them back to the very end of their reception. But you know how it is with us — we usually do some of our favorite work when under pressure. But Andrea & Frank are the ideal sort of couple when it comes to modeling and taking cues for these sorts of portraits. We couldn’t have asked for better from them. They were awesome.

The Skylands Manor mansion (or castle… I tend to use the terms interchangeably) is one of our favorite venues, as it offers plenty of opportunities to explore its grounds and hallways. Since it was the middle of December, we knew we’d have fun wandering through the interiors. This particular shot was actually similar to another we’d done a few years ago, and so Andrea requested it. We were more than happy to provide a new take on it, and these guys are spectacular. 🙂

I hope you guys are enjoying your photography as much as ever! Hugs to you and Berti. 🙂December 21, 2007 – 1:21 PM

  • Ulysses - Oh my goodness, Andrea! What can I say except this: You two were simply AWESOME!! But then again, we knew you would be!! Getting to know you guys in the days and months leading up to your wedding has been one of our favorite experiences of the year. From the moments you spent privately with your mom and Patti, through the beautiful ceremony where you two had eyes for no one but each other, and especially during our private photo session… we simply had a BLAST!

We’re glad to know that you had at least as enjoyable a time as Jenni and I did. I had no doubt that your being so uninhibited and simply enjoying your time together would result in the most amazing opportunities for photos. We couldn’t have asked for better.

… wait… did someone say “baby”??? LOL! I don’t want to rush things. But MAKE SURE you let us know when you’re interested in talking about photos for your maternity and beyond. We’d love nothing more.

Nothing but Love and Hugs for you both! We’ll talk again soon. 🙂December 17, 2007 – 7:48 PM

  • Ulysses - Hi there, Patti! 🙂

Jenni and I hope you’ve been both surprised and completely satisfied with what you’ve seen now in the photos. You can probably tell that we had just as much fun and enjoyment as anyone else that attended this beautiful wedding day at Skylands Manor. You were the perfect sister, too, keeping Andrea laughing and helping her out with so many little things. It was wonderful to see your relationship as sisters.

I’m also glad that you felt completely comfortable to laugh, cry, and just be the totally fun person that you are even when a camera was right there in front of you. Things like that help make the photography that much more memorable both Andrea & Frank, as well as for us.

Take care! And we hope to hear from you again one day soon. 😉December 17, 2007 – 7:42 PM

  • Andrea - I knew the day I met you both that your passion for what you do and your passion for one another would help Frankie and I to show our passion through your lens.
You both have been nothing but understanding, amazing, helpful and loving toward us through everything. You are both amazing people and I love what you brought to the most important day of our lives. Every single person at our wedding bragged about you and I knew they would. We love you both and we love all of the moments you captured.

We can’t wait for the baby session!!!!!!!!

    XOXOXOXO

  • Patti Rueck - I just have to say that I can only imagine what the photos will look like based on the two you let us view. They are beautiful. I have to tell you that you are the nicest couple with such a passion in photography and it shows through your work. You have made my sister’s dreams come true by capturing the most important day of her life and making her feel like a princess. I can’t wait to get married so I can have the amazing experience my sister had with the two of you!! Thank you so much 🙂December 12, 2007 – 9:02 AM
